This one time...I tried LOTRO. I had a lot of fun with it actually, fiddling with my halfl...hobbit's appearance:

Then I made the terrible mistake of clicking that button which says "Enter Middle-Earth" in the bottom corner.
It took me about 5 minutes to realize this game was not for me. I hated the user interface, and the character
animation sucked, it was more like something out of the original Everquest than something I'd expect to see
in a fairly new game. I really wanted to like LOTRO but I couldn't. It just wasn't EQ2.
Oh, and not a ratonga in sight, of course, which didn't help.

When I tried it again a few months back, it really wasn't as bad as I remembered, I guess they fixed some things, or maybe it's just the way SOE has borked up EQ2 lately which made LOTRO feel a lot better than before.

One thing I strongly dislike about LOTRO is how there are separate clients for EU and US servers, which is really nice to find out after downloading 10 gigs worth of the wrong client. Oh, and your account is tied to either EU or US so you can't log on a US server with your EU account.

Compare this to EQ2 where I can use the same client for both regions (just a quick patch when switching) and the same account for both regions. Thank you SOE! <3

I find this with all games... i tried Vangard, and lasted a hour... tried AoC and lasted about a week.... I just can't get into any other online game as it's just not Everquest 2... and plus the AoC Necromancers were fugly and not sexy dark elves!

I love EQ2 as well, which makes it such a shame that SOE is constantly trying to turn it into WoW.

Grok enjoy search picturesque scenery for potatoes. :)

Grok not so keen on what Grok think bigoted and unfounded anti-goblorc sentiment everywhere in game. :(

That's a problem in a lot of games though, isn't it?

How ironic that the situation now will be the exact opposite - Thanks to SOE's deal with PSS1, EQ2 and EQNext will be region locked, while Turbine has taken over the European LOTRO servers and opened up all their servers for players from all over the world. LOTRO suddenly looks a lot better than it did before.
